L3Harris is redefining the undersea battlespace with its Iver4 autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) and breakthrough torpedo tube launch and recovery (TTL&R) technology. In a recent at-sea operation in the Mediterranean, with the U.K. Royal Navy under Project Scylla, L3Harris AUVs successfully conducted submarine launch and recovery operations, demonstrating a major step forward for the Royal Navy. This trial not only validated the Iver4’s capabilities but also marked a pivotal step toward a hybrid Navy fleet where crewed platforms leverage uncrewed platforms as force multipliers, delivering engagement superiority.

Delivered under AUKUS Pillar 2, Project Scylla represents a pioneering collaboration between Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States (AUKUS) to fast-track next-generation undersea capabilities. AUVs can take on routine operations, freeing the submarine to focus on high-priority missions.

The ability to recover AUVs into a moving, submerged submarine delivers a significant tactical advantage. Manned platforms remain in safe or covert positions while AUVs conduct high-risk activities. Upon return, the AUV brings back high-fidelity data for mission planning, seamlessly integrating manned-unmanned teaming into submarine operations.
